President Biden's advisors are reportedly considering sending him to Saudi Arabia to push the kingdom to pump more oil as prices soar to over $130 a barrel.



As Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. and the rest of the world have imposed harsh sanctions on Moscow that have driven already-high gas prices to their highest in over a decade.



Biden has so far held off on banning Russian oil imports despite bipartisan pressure to do so. While the U.S. has tried to present a united front with its European allies on sanctions, Biden is considering going it alone with banning Russian oil imports, according to Bloomberg.





Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that the House is considering 'strong legislation' to ban Russian oil and energy products. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky implored U.S. lawmakers to do so during a call on Saturday.



Countries from Japan to the United States discussed banning Russian oil imports in response to the country's invasion of Ukraine, fueling an 18 percent jump in crude oil on top of a 21 percent surge last week.

Joe Biden may travel to Saudi Arabia to beg them for more oil as he shuts down domestic pipelines and freezes new leases on drilling.



Now that Biden shut down access to oil drilling projects, pipelines and production projects in the US he is reaching out to America’s enemies to import oil and gas.



Biden’s advisors are currently in Venezuela begging the Marxist Maduro regime for oil.



Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also said buying oil from Iran is “on the table.”


Joe Biden would rather pay Russia, Iran, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia for oil than approve the Keystone Pipeline.

President Biden’s advisers are discussing a possible visit to Saudi Arabia this spring to help repair relations and convince the Kingdom to pump more oil, Axios has learned.



Why it matters: A hat-in-hand trip would illustrate the gravity of the global energy crisis driven by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Biden has chastised Saudi Arabia, and the CIA believes its de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was involved in the dismemberment of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.



Meanwhile, the national average for gas just topped $4 a gallon in the US with places like California paying nearly $6.



The price of a barrel of Brent Crude oil reached $130 on Monday – the highest price in 13 years since Obama was in office.

Saudi Crown Prince Says He Doesn’t Care what Biden Thinks of Him

In an interview for The Atlantic published Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that although Riyadh’s aim is to maintain strong ties with Washington, he does not care what US President Joe Biden thinks of him.



Noting that Saudi Arabia has a long, historic relationship with the US, the Crown Prince stressed that it’s up to Biden to think about the interests of America, pointing out that alienating the Saudi monarchy would only harm Biden’s position.



Biden managed to sour ties soured between the two countries after he targeted the Kingdom in his first foreign policy moves, ending the support for the Saudi offensive operations in Yemen, freezing the arms sales to Riyadh and the UAE, and vowing to recalibrate ties with Saudi Arabia.



Biden also removed the Iran-backed Houthis from the terror blacklist – something he has been reconsidering lately – but the UN Security Council corrected his mistake on Monday adopting a resolution on Yemen that labels for the first time the Iran-backed Houthis as a terrorist group.



Mohammed bin Salman noted there’s a risk for the political, economic, security, defense, and trade interests between the two countries to get downgraded but refused to comment on what interests the US had in Saudi Arabia, stressing he is not an American.



Asked about the US influence in Saudi Arabia’s domestic affairs and how the US judges its allies by pursuing policies similar to American interests or ideologies, the Crown Prince advised against anyone trying to pressure them on something that they believe in already and pointed out that socially, the two countries would never be in complete tandem.

Saudi, UAE Leaders Decline Calls with Joe Biden Amid Ukraine-Russia-Oil Crisis

Saudi and Emirati leaders rejected requested phone calls with Joe Biden amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict and oil crisis, The Wall Street Journal reported.



The Wall Street Journal reported:



The White House unsuccessfully tried to arrange calls between President Biden and the de facto leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as the U.S. was working to build international support for Ukraine and contain a surge in oil prices, said Middle East and U.S. officials.


Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the U.A.E.’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan both declined U.S. requests to speak to Mr. Biden in recent weeks, the officials said, as Saudi and Emirati officials have become more vocal in recent weeks in their criticism of American policy in the Gulf.



“There was some expectation of a phone call, but it didn’t happen,“ said a U.S. official of the planned discussion between the Saudi Prince Mohammed and Mr. Biden. ”It was part of turning on the spigot [of Saudi oil].”



Mr. Biden did speak with Prince Mohammed’s 86-year-old father, King Salman, on Feb. 9, when the two men reiterated their countries’ longstanding partnership. The U.A.E.’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the call between Mr. Biden and Sheikh Mohammed would be rescheduled.



The White House was planning on sending Joe Biden to Saudi Arabia this spring to beg them for more oil as he shuts down domestic pipelines and freezes new leases on drilling.
