Hezbollah ushers in ‘escalatory phase’ in war against Israel
The Lebanese terrorist organization said it will use precision-guided missiles to attack IDF soldiers. (Oct. 18, 2024 / JNS) Hezbollah on Thursday night introduced changes to its war against the Jewish state that include using precision-guided missiles to target IDF troops, Agence France-Presse reported. The Iranian terrorist proxy in Lebanon announced the “transition to a new and escalatory phase in the confrontation with the Israeli enemy,” according to the report. The move came after Israel Defense Forces soldiers killed Hamas terror master Yahya Sinwar in a firefight in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Last month, Hezbollah upped its anti-Israel rhetoric, saying it is fighting Israel not just in solidarity with Hamas but also “in defense of Lebanon and its people.” A statement released by the terrorist group opened with, “Permission to fight has been granted to those for they have been wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory,” citing a verse from the Koran. The statement went on to claim Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel were “in support of our steadfast Palestinian people in Gaza and in support of their valiant and honorable resistance and in defense of Lebanon and its people.” Hezbollah has attacked Israel nearly daily in support of Hamas since Oct. 8, 2023, firing some 10,000 rockets, missiles and drones. Jerusalem has escalated attacks on Hezbollah since adding the return home of its displaced citizens in northern Israel to its official war goals on Sept. 17, 2024. On Thursday night, the IDF announced that five soldiers were killed fighting Hezbollah terrorists in Southern Lebanon. The slain men were named as Maj. Ofek Bachar, 24, from Ness Ziona; Capt. Elad Siman Tov, 23, from Tzofim; Staff Sgt. Elyashiv Eitan Wieder, 22, from Jerusalem; Staff Sgt. Yakov Hillel, 21, from Jerusalem; and Staff Sgt. Yehudah Dror Yahalom, 21, from Hebron. link

Hezbollah warns of ‘new and escalatory phase’ of war with Israel by using precision-guided missiles after Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar killed
Hezbollah announced a “new and escalatory phase” in its war with Israel on Thursday - hours after the Israeli military confirmed its forces killed the leader of Hamas. By Anna Young Oct 18, 2024 12:38 AM Hezbollah announced a “new and escalatory phase” in its war with Israel on Thursday – hours after the Israeli military confirmed its forces killed the leader of Hamas. The terror group claimed it had used precision-guided missiles against Israeli troops for the first time since the Jewish state launched a ground invasion into Lebanon last month with the goal of rooting out Hezbollah militants. In a statement, the Iran-backed terrorist organization said that their plan “will be reflected in the developments and events of the coming days” as hundreds of fighters are prepared to “counter any Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanese villages.” Hezbollah noted that attacks against Israel have increased in recent days, adding that it has killed 55 Israeli soldiers and injured 500 since the war erupted on Sept. 23. The statement made no mention of the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar – a Hezbollah ally who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, along with two other Hamas terrorists who were traveling with him. Sinwar’s death has been hailed by US and Israeli officials as a major blow to Hamas with the potential of ending the war in Gaza and freeing the remaining 97 hostages who were abducted from Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Israel has pummeled areas in targeted airstrikes against Hezbollah’s leadership in southern Lebanon, with the rivals engaged in close-range combat after Israel launched a ground invasion last month to demolish the terror groups weapons depots and infrastructure. The Israeli military said it killed more than 200 Hezbollah operatives during a raid earlier this month, with multiple tunnels and rocket-launching facilities destroyed along the border. Hezbollah’s declaration did not mention Hamas leader Yahya Al Sinwar, but came hours after Israel confirmed his death. MOHAMMED SABER/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock Israel has also decimated the terror group’s leadership and ranks in recent months, killing Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Sept. 27. Israeli defense officials also revealed earlier this month that Nasrallah’s planned successor, Hashem Safieddine, was likely also killed in an airstrike before he could even be formally elected as a replacement. Along with the two chiefs, the IDF’s airstrikes in southern Lebanon and Beirut have killed more than a dozen senior officials, including the top commanders of Hezbollah’s elite military and missile firing units. Hezbollah’s threat comes more than a week after it announced it was ready to engage in cease-fire talks with Israel and previously vowed that it would stop its attacks until it agreed to end the war in Gaza – despite firing missiles over the border nearly every day since Oct. 8. It remains unclear if Israel will accept a cease-fire deal with Hezbollah as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that the operations in Lebanon would not end until he is assured the terror group will no longer pose an active threat to northern Israel. The US and France have repeatedly urged the two sides to engage in a truce over fears the conflict would spark an all-out war in the Middle East. Pictures and video at link

Hezbollah rockets fired at Tel Aviv for second day in a row
Two rockets headed toward central Israel were intercepted by air defenses. (Oct. 23, 2024 / JNS) Hezbollah terrorists launched rockets at the Tel Aviv metropolitan area on Wednesday morning for the second consecutive day, sending millions of Israelis to bomb shelters. The Iranian terror proxy in Lebanon also targeted northern border towns and the Galilee, including the city of Nazareth. The military confirmed that two rockets headed toward central Israel were intercepted by air defenses. There were no immediate reports of injuries in the attack, though rocket shrapnel damaged a car in the coastal city of Herzliya. Hezbollah took responsibility for the rocket attack, claiming it targeted the “Glilot base of the Military Intelligence Unit 8200 in the suburbs of Tel Aviv with a qualitative missile salvo.” Early Tuesday morning, Hezbollah terrorists fired about five rockets at central Israel, setting off sirens across the region including in Tel Aviv. Simultaneously, the Shi’ite terrorist organization fired some 15 rockets at the Upper Galilee and the Golan Heights, most of which were intercepted. A later rocket barrage targeting Kibbutz Neot Mordechai in the Galilee panhandle killed one IDF soldier while wounding at least two others. The army said some 30 projectiles were fired from Lebanon in the attack that killed Master Sgt. (res.) Saar Eliad Navarsky, 27, from Tel Aviv. Sixty people—28 Israeli civilians and 30 IDF soldiers, as well as a Thai national and an Indian citizen—have been killed by Hezbollah fire since the terrorist group opened a front against Israel the day after Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, massacre of some 1,200 people, according to official data. In addition, at least 570 people have been wounded in Hezbollah’s ongoing attacks on the Jewish state, including about 340 civilians. Jerusalem has escalated attacks on Hezbollah since adding the safe return of some 60,000 residents evacuated from towns and villages along Israel’s northern border to its official war goals on Sept. 17. The IDF announced late Tuesday night that Hashem Safieddine, a potential successor to slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an airstrike carried out by the Israeli Air Force three weeks ago. IAF jets “conducted a precise, intelligence-based strike on Hezbollah’s main intelligence headquarters, deliberately located underground beneath the civilian population in the Dahiyeh,” the IDF confirmed. The strike killed 25 Hezbollah terrorists, including Safieddine and Ali Hussein Hazima, commander of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters. Safieddine was a first cousin of Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last month. The IDF said Safieddine frequently served as acting secretary-general of Hezbollah when Nasrallah was outside Lebanon. link

BREAKING: Israel Begins Strikes on Iran, Blasts Reported in Tehran (VIDEO)
by Cassandra MacDonald Oct. 25, 2024 6:40 pm Israel began retaliatory strikes on Iran on Saturday morning. Strikes were heard in the Iranian capital of Tehran just after 2 a.m. local time. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they are conducting “precise strikes on military targets” and released the following statement on social media: In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel—right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran. The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th—on seven fronts—including direct attacks from Iranian soil. Like every other sovereign country in the world, the State of Israel has the right and the duty to respond. Our defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized. The statement concluded by saying they will “do whatever necessary to defend the State of Israel and the people of Israel.” The Jerusalem Post reports: Five explosions were reported heard across Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj early on Saturday morning, according to Iranian media, in what is alleged to be the beginning of an Israeli retaliatory attack on Iran. Reports of explosions at the Imam Khomeini International Airport in the Iranian capital were also received. Arab media reported that Israel attacked the location of the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in Iran. Additional explosions are being reported in Syria and Iraq. A fire was also reported on Friday at an Iranian Defense Ministry location in Tehran. Hours before the strike, it was reported by Newsweek that Israel would attack Iran’s nuclear operation — though it is not confirmed that is what happened. Iran fired approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel earlier this month. Nobody was hurt or killed in the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that there would be a response. link

WSJ: Syria’s State-Run News Agency Says Airstrikes Happening Around Capital
Elizabeth Weibel 25 Oct 2024 Syria’s state-run news agency announced that airstrikes were happening around the country’s capital of Damascus, according to the Wall Street Journal. The announcement came after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they had launched a retaliation attack against Iran. Breitbart News’s Joel Pollak reported that the IDF said: IDF: In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel — right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran. The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th — on seven fronts — including direct attacks from Iranian soil. Like every other sovereign country in the world, the State of Israel has the right and the duty to respond. Our defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized. We will do whatever necessary to defend the State of Israel and the people of Israel. Reuters reported that “Iran’s state TV said several strong explosions were heard around the capital of Tehran.” White House National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett told the outlet that the United States understood Israel was “conducting targeted strikes against military targets in Iran as an exercise of self-defense and in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack against Israel on October 1st.” link

Second Wave: Israel Strikes Iran Nationwide; Hits near Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Mashhad
Joel B. Pollak 25 Oct 2024 The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a second wave of airstrikes against Iran early Saturday morning, as hits were reported across the entire breadth of the country. As Breitbart News reported, the IDF announced earlier that it had begun attacks on Iranian military targets in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attacks and other attacks. “IDF: The Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi, is currently commanding the strike on Iran from the Israeli Air Force underground command center in Camp Rabin (The Kirya) with the Commanding Officer of the Israeli Air Force, Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar.” (IDF) Explosions were initially reported near the Iranian capital city of Tehran. Iranian official sources reportedly denied that Israel had penetrated Iranian airspace, and claimed the explosions were the result of Iranian air defenses. Iran relies on Russian S-300 and S-400 systems to defend its skies; it has an aging air force of U.S.-made fighters. Sources reported that a second wave of attacks had begun, and Israel’s Army Radio confirmed that attacks on Iran were ongoing. Army Radio reported that strikes were reported throughout Iran — near Shiraz, Isfahan, Mashhad, and the northern region of the country, near the area known as Kurdistan. According to Army Radio, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is personally overseeing the attack on Iran from the IDF’s underground headquarters, known as the “Kirya,” in Tel Aviv. It was not immediately clear what the targets of the attack were, but they were said to be military in nature. Iran would essentially be defenseless against Israel if the IDF were able to destroy its missile sites and air defenses. Formerly, Iran used its terrorist proxies in Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen as deterrents — and, indeed Hezbollah fired rockets at northern Israel after the Israeli retaliation began. However, these proxies have been severely downgraded in their capabilities after a year of war, in which they attacked Israel and the IDF responded with devastating force. Sirens were triggered in northern Israel early Saturday, apparently by drones fired by Hezbollah in Lebanon. No damage was reported. Israel reportedly informed the White House before beginning the attack. American responses thus far have been muted, but the U.S. has indicated that Israel is acting in legitimate self-defense against Iran and its terrorist proxies. link

Iran to use bigger warheads in attack on Israel
Tehran could launch the offensive during the transition period between the U.S. presidential election and inauguration. Joshua Marks (Nov. 4, 2024 / JNS) Iran is planning a “strong and complex” attack on Israel that will involve more powerful warheads and other weapons not used in its previous two assaults on the Jewish state this year, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. Tehran could launch the offensive during the transition between Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election and the inauguration held in Washington on Jan. 20, according to the report, which cited Iranian and Arab officials briefed on the plans. According to the sources, the regime will include its conventional army in the attack and not just the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, because four soldiers and a civilian were killed by Israel’s Oct. 26 retaliatory strikes on Iran. The IRGC, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, normally handles security matters related to Israel. In retaliation for Iran’s Oct. 1 ballistic missile attack on Israel, on Oct. 26, dozens of Israeli aircraft, including refuelers and spy planes, struck targets across Iran in several waves. The targets reportedly included missile and drone manufacturing facilities and launch sites, as well as air-defense batteries, but not Iran’s nuclear program or energy infrastructure. An Egyptian official told the Journal that the Islamic Republic has warned privately of a “strong and complex” response. Tehran has also publicly threatened a large attack in recent days, with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei vowing a “crushing response” and IRGC chief Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami warning of “bitter consequences.” An Iranian official said that part of the operation could be launched from Iraqi territory. Saudi website Elaph reported that satellites are monitoring the movement of ballistic missiles and related equipment from Iran to Iraq which could be used in an attack on Israel. Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaee said at a press conference on Monday that “we would employ all of physical and intellectual capabilities to respond to the Zionist regime,” speaking in response to a question about a potential Iranian attack on Israel from Iraqi soil, according to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, a Tehran-based media outlet associated with the IRGC. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella organization composed of several Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias operating under IRGC command, has been launching daily drone attacks on Israel since Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, invasion of the northwestern Negev. Israel has warned the Iraqi government that unless it reins in the Iranian-backed militias, the country could face retaliation. “Our military lost people, so they need to respond,” the Iranian official said, adding that the planned attack would likely target Israeli military facilities “but much more aggressively than last time.” On Oct. 1, Iran fired 180 ballistic missiles at Israel in its second-ever direct attack on the Jewish state. The first attack, on April 13, involved some 300 missiles and drones. In a coordinated defensive effort with Israel, the United States and regional and international partners, the great majority of the projectiles in both attacks were intercepted, causing minimal casualties and damage. Israel responded to the April attack by striking an air defense site at an airbase near Isfahan in central Iran, which was followed by the much larger retaliatory attack in October that severely damaged Iran’s aerial defense system and missile production industry. However, in a greater test for Israel’s multi-layer defenses and allies, Iran is planning to expand the scope of its third attack, and to use more powerful warheads, the source said. Tehran said that in the Oct. 1 attack it used four different types of medium-range ballistic missiles—the Emad and Ghadr, as well as Kheibar Shekan and Fattah, two of the regime’s newest and most advanced missiles. According to the Iranian official, the attack will not come before Tuesday’s election because Tehran does not want to influence the results. The United States has warned Iran that any attack before voting day will be considered election interference. Iran is reportedly concerned about a second term in office for Donald Trump. Arab and Western officials told Reuters on Sunday that the Islamic Republic fears that Trump could empower Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to strike Iran’s nuclear sites and conduct targeted assassinations as well as ratchet up punishing sanctions on Iran’s oil industry. Washington has warned Iran not to attack Israel again. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said last week that there would be “severe consequences” if Iran attacks Israel or the United States. “We believe this should be the end of the direct exchange of fire between Israel and Iran,” she said. The Americans are further bolstering their military posture in the Middle East with the arrival of B-52 bombers and Navy warships. A Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system is already operational in Israel to bolster the country’s defenses. The United States has warned Tehran that it will not be able to restrain Jerusalem in the event of another attack, Axios reported on Saturday, citing an American and a former Israeli official. link“We told the Iranians: We won’t be able to hold Israel back, and we won’t be able to make sure that the next attack will be [as] calibrated and targeted as the previous one,” the U.S. official was quoted as saying.

Israel strikes Hezbollah intelligence HQ near Damascus
The site served as "Hezbollah’s central intelligence body," the IDF said. (Nov. 4, 2024 / JNS) Israeli Air Force fighter jets on Monday night attacked Hezbollah terror targets in Syria’s Sayyidah Zaynab area, located about six miles south of Damascus, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed following local reports. “Air Force fighter jets, under the direction of the Military Intelligence Directorate, conducted an aerial operation, striking Hezbollah terror targets belonging to Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Syria,” the military said in a Hebrew-language statement shared on social media. The site served as “Hezbollah’s central intelligence body, responsible for intelligence assessments, the direction of intelligence activities and the intelligence gathering and detection capabilities,” the IDF added. The army explained that Hezbollah’s intelligence division has a Syrian branch, which gathers independent intel on Israeli troop movements and until recently was under the direct command of the Iranian-backed terrorist group’s now-slain head of intelligence, Hassan Ali al-Zaima. Reports in Syrian media said the strikes in Sayyidah Zaynab, a major center of Iranian terrorist activity, caused at least several casualties. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is affiliated with the country’s opposition, reported that the strikes targeted a farm controlled by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its Hezbollah proxy. Israel rarely admits to attacks in Syria, although in February Jerusalem revealed that it had struck more than 50 targets belonging to Hezbollah and other Iran-backed terrorist groups in the country since Oct. 7, 2023. On Thursday, the Israeli Air Force attacked Hezbollah infrastructure in the Syrian city of Al-Qusayr, located near the border with Lebanon. “Following IDF intelligence, the IAF struck weapons-storage facilities and command centers used by Hezbollah’s Radwan Force and its Munitions Unit in the area of Al-Qusayr,” the IDF said. “Hezbollah’s Munitions Unit is responsible for storing weapons inside Lebanon and has recently expanded its activities into the town of Al-Qusayr. “The Hezbollah terrorist organization endangers the security of Syrian and Lebanese civilians by embedding command centers and forces in civilian areas in both these countries,” the Israeli military noted. On Sunday, the IDF revealed that special forces captured a pro-Iranian regime terrorist operative during a raid in Syria. The raid was carried out in “recent months” by members of the Egoz commando unit, along with field interrogators of the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504. Ali Soleiman al-Assi, a Syrian from Saida in the southern part of the country, was tasked by Tehran with “gathering intelligence on IDF troops in the border area for future terror activity of the network,” the IDF said in a post on social media on Sunday night. “The operation prevented a future attack and led to the exposure of the operational methods of Iranian terror networks located near the Golan Heights. Al-Assi was transferred for further investigation,” it added. www.jns.org/israeli-strikes-reported-near-damascus-2/
